It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Mohtaram Mohammad Rafiq Sahib. He was a founding member of The Canada Urdu Association when the society came into being in 1997. He has been attached with the organization at the hip since its inception, serving as director, president, and in latter years as mentor and advisor to the board of directors of a new generation. The Canada Urdu Association has been one of Mohtaram Rafiq Sahib's many life's works, to the enormous benefit and reward of it's members and the Urdu speaking community at large in the lower mainland of British Columbia.
He will be tremendously missed by all of us at The Canada Urdu Association. All of us extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to Mohtaram Rafiq Sahib's family, friends, and loved ones. May they find the strength and peace to bear his enormous loss.
The Canada Urdu Association proudly held our inaugural Aalmi Mushaira. The program was broadcast live on our YouTube and Facebook pages

Due to the coronavirus pandemic our normal activites are currently on pause for the foreseable future. Given the social distancing guidelines in effect in British Columbia it is not sensible or responsible to hold gatherings like our bi-monthly mushairas or other such events. We hope things can return to some sort of normal semblance soon. Meantime, please look after your wellbeing and wear mask when outdoors.
