We are pleased to announce that The Canada Urdu Association was recently honoured by Vancouver Heritage Month Society (VAHMS) with a special Honorable Mention Award during their 25th Anniversary Recognition Awards, held on June 10th via Zoom. We are tremendously grateful to VAHMS for appreciating our efforts and activities in the community and shining a spotlight on our work. This award highlights our positive and constructive work in the South Asian community. Our efforts to cultivate harmony, peace, tolerance and understanding in local, national, and international communities by promoting the value of oral and written communication with special importance to native languages. Especially, of course, our beloved Urdu. For encouraging, promoting, and expressing the rich art and culture of the Indo-Pak subcontinent.
This recognition is a testament to the vision of our founding members, every single paying member, every single director ever elected to our board, every participant, every writer, every poet, every artist, every volunteer, every kind and generous sponsor, every media partner, every contributor, every restaurant that gave us space to host our events, every person that has ever supported, encouraged, and uplifted our organization. This is due to them, and all of you!
We are also extremely delighted and pleased to announce that Mohtarma Huma Shoaib, President of The Canada Urdu Association has been awarded VAHMS 2021 Recognition Award for her individual contributions to her professional and community endeavors. This award was one of three major awards given by VAHMS this year. Every year VAHMS recongnizes three outstanding individuals or organizations for their work, and our president (on her individual merits and achievements) was one of the honoured major prize recipients. The Vancouver Heritage Month Society is celebrating their 25th anniversary this year and have been doing a magnificent job for a long time raising voices and profiles of those in the Pan-Asian community. According to their website: "Every year, VAHMS (explorASIAN) awards three individuals, community organizations, or educational institutions representing Pan-Asian communities that have made significant contributions to VAHMS’ vision of fostering, promoting and celebrating the arts and cultural diversity that Asian-Canadian communities bring to Canadian society."
We at The Canada Urdu Association are enormously pleased and proud at this wonderful recognition for Mohtarma Huma Shoaib. Way to go and well done, Madam President!!
